Yeast Infection Cream
Yeast infection or ‘Candida Vulvovaginits’ is one of the most common vaginal complaints that women have. It is caused by a fungus known as ‘Candida Albicans’ that causes symptoms like cottage-like discharge from the vagina, itching or burning in the area, swelling around the vagina and vulva and pain or discomfort during intercourse. The yeast infection cream is often the best mode of treatment for solving this problem.
Yeast infection can affect nearly 80 percent of women during their reproductive years. It is best to seek treatment from a reputed health-care profession so that you do not get this problem again. Though the fungus ‘Candida Albicans’ is the main reason for yeast infection, it can be also caused by abusing over the counter medication or frequent use of antibiotics. Women who take oral contraceptive pills also risk yeast infection because these medicines contain high level of estrogen in them. Vaginal sponges, diaphragms and various intrauterine devices can also cause irritation to the lining of the vagina and cause the infection. Women with weak immunity, those who take corticosteroids and finally pregnant women are at risk of yeast infections due to hormonal changes in the body.
Check with your doctor to diagnose a yeast infection because there are too many other conditions that look like this one, but may not be the same, then you may put yourself to more health complications. Do not clean your vagina or douche it prior to the medical test because then the results will not be clear.
The yeast infection cream that one should go for is often an anti-fungal cream. Some of the over-the-counter creams include Miconazole, Tioncazole and Clotrimazole. Miconazole can be used to treat the most common form of yeast infection. It can relieve you of the burning and itching symptoms, and comes with a one-day prescription course, 3 day and 7 day course for complete treatment. Tioconazole vaginal ointment is another antifungal medicine that treats the ‘monilla yeast infection’. You have to apply it only in the vagina, by using an applicator. Use the plunger to discharge the ointment in the area. Clotrimzaole is an effective yeast infection cream that comes under the brand name Gyne-Lotrimin and Trivagizole among many others.
If the symptoms do not go after 3 days of use or so, you can tell your doctor about it. Do not use the yeast infection cream for more than one week. If you are pregnant, refrain from using an OTC medicine and ask the doctor for a prescribed one.
Tell your health care professional if your symptoms do not improve after 3 days of use with Clotrimzaole products. Do not use for more than one week. If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, notify your physician prior to using non-prescription products. Women who get more than four or yeast infections in a year are candidates for ‘recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis’. Only 7 percent of women have this problem and the ones who do have weakened immune system or suffer from unmanaged diabetes. It is recommended to cut down on sugar in the diet to prevent this problem. For recurrent yeast infections, the drugs that are prescribed include clotrimazole, intraconazole and ketoconazole.
